Origin of Late Cenozoic Abaga–Dalinuoer basalts, eastern China

Continental intraplate basalts (15.42–0.16 Ma) from Abaga–Dalinuoer volcanic field (ADVF) in central Inner Mongolia of eastern China, as a part of Cenozoic volcanic province along eastern margin of the Eurasian continent, provide a good opportunity to explore potential links between deep subduction of the Pacific slab and continental intraplate volcanism.

Seismic evidence for global basalt accumulation in the mantle

Basalt accumulation at the base of MTZ, or the complementary harzburgite enrichment directly below it, has been reported in some regional studies, such as in southern Africa, northern China, the Samoa hot spot, the Hawaii hot spot, and a few subduction zones . Our results provide direct seismic evidence for basalt enrichment in the MTZ on a ...

Mobilization and re-distribution of major and trace elements …

Herein, we report some major and trace elements of a weathering profile developed on Neogene basalt in northeast Hainan Island, South China. Because basalts are very sensitive to chemical weathering (Berner and Berner, 1997), and chemical weathering is significantly intensified by the tropical climate, most of the weathering profiles in this region have …

Recycled carbonate-induced oxidization of the

The widespread Cenozoic basalts of eastern China occur >1000 km from the western Pacific subduction zone (Fig. 1).These intraplate basalts generally display depleted Nd isotopic and OIB-like trace-element compositions, suggesting an origin in asthenospheric mantle containing recycled oceanic-crust components (Niu, 2005; Xu et al., 2018).Their abnormally …

Geochronology and geochemistry of Cenozoic basalts from …

The 40Ar–39Ar dating reveals three episodes of basaltic volcanism in eastern Guangdong of SE China since the late Eocene (i.e., 35.5, ~20 and 6.6 Ma). The Miocene alkali olivine basalts (~20 and 6.6 Ma) have OIB-like trace element characteristics, which is coupled with low (87Sr/86Sr)i, high εNd(t), and high εHf(t). In contrast, the late Eocene basalts (35.5 …

Element mobilization and redistribution under extreme tropical

Chemical weathering of rocks has substantial influence on the global geochemical cycle. In this paper, the geochemical profile of a well-developed basalt weathering profile (>15 m thick, including soil, saprolite, semi-weathered rock and fresh basalt) on the Island of Hainan (South China) was presented. The soil and saprolite samples from this profile are characterized …

Review of research on basalt fibers and basalt fiber-reinforced

In China, basalt deposits are quite abundant, and they are mainly distributed in the southern foot of the Qinling, Gansu, Heilongjiang, Dalian, Jilin, and Xinjiang regions; the Himalayas in Tibet; and the Qinghai, Shanxi, Fujian, Shandong, Anhui and coastal areas of southern China. 48 Among them, the basalt storage capacity reached 500 million ...

Pursuing Zero-Carbon Steel in China

China exports 51.4 million tons of steel and imports 37.9 million tons, a net export of 13.5 million tons. 3 China's steel products are mainly used to support industrialization and urbanization. China's steel sector emitted more than 1.5 billion tons of CO 2 in 2017.4 This accounts for 17% of the national total, making it the second largest ...
