Life in the cave

These segmented worms (e.g. earthworm) are often abundant in caves, groundwaters and sediments living in soil. They ingest ('eat') mud and extract nutrients from it. Allolobophora chlorotica is responsible for worm casts in Otter Hole. Some are to be found deep in caves but all those found in caves also live in surface soils.

Cut Blasting Optimization Using 3D Laser Scanning and …

For the non-bottom pillar segmented caving method commonly used in metal mines, the excavation speed of full section tunnel blasting is crucial. This speed is primarily determined by the effectiveness of cut blasting. A well-designed cut blasting method facilitates rock fragmentation and ejection within the cut cavity, providing additional free ...

A new diversion drawing technique for controlling ore loss and …

High ore loss and dilution, which are mainly caused by direct contact between blasted ore and caved rock, generally exist in the process of exploiting inclined medium-thick ore bodies using the sublevel caving method. An improved diversion drawing technique was proposed with the aim of controlling ore loss and dilution by changing the flow path and velocity of caved …

Study on the law of ore dilution and loss and control strategies …

To improve ore recovery ratio and the quality of medium-length hole blasting in non-pillar sublevel caving method, this study first investigated the effects of brow line failure on rock movement and ore recovery indexes based on rock blasting fragmentation mechanisms, the granular dynamics theory and ore drawing theory. Subsequently, control strategies to enhance blasting quality …

Maypole, a full history

It used a ladder connected to the top. Their caving companion Charles Petit-Didier helped improve the design in 1942 so it could be used in longer lengths, using guy ropes. Irish cavers J.C. Coleman and N.J. Dunnington attempted to make a segmented scaling ladder in 1943, but it collapsed during its first use underground in Pollnagollum.
